Valuable clinical practice guideline on the management of cancer in EB published

We are delighted to announce the publication of a clinical practice guideline on the management of skin cancer in people with severe EB.

This guideline was commissioned by DEBRA International, and its development was led by Dr. Jemma Mellerio, a leading London-based EB dermatologist. It will assist in the diagnosis and management of the form of skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma or SCC) that is associated with severe types of EB.

To help ensure that the guideline will be valuable to as wide an audience as possible, the development group was made up of experts in a range of specialities from eight different countries, and it was also reviewed by EB patients.

The recommendations included in the guideline are based on the best available scientific evidence and on expert consensus. In the words of the authors, 'they highlight the importance of a holistic multidisciplinary approach to the management of EB-associated SCCs, where patient involvement in decision making is paramount.'

On behalf of all in DEBRA International and EB-CLINET, we would like to express our huge appreciation and gratitude to Jemma and everyone involved in the development of this incredibly valuable guideline.
