New smartphone app for scoring EB severity

Dr. Elena Pope reports on a new tool called iscorEB - instrument for scoring clinical outcomes for research of EB. It is aimed at scoring EB disease severity without any great effort.

"It is my great pleasure to inform the EB community that, after many years of international collaboration, we have finalized a tool aimed at scoring EB disease severity, named iscorEB (instrument for scoring clinical outcomes for research of EB).

The tool's main advantage is combining clinician observed health related items (skin, mucous membrane and internal organ involvement, laboratory abnormalities, complications and procedures) with patient relevant items (pain, itch, mobility, activities of daily living, mood and impact on work/school/leisure).

Although primarily designed for research purposes, we believe that iscorEB is also useful for monitoring the disease progression in regular clinical practice. As such, we designed a mobile application (free of charge) for both Apple and Android products that can be downloaded by both patients and practitioners interested in assessing and tracking disease involvement and impact over time.

The app can be downloaded from the iTunes store and will soon be available on Google play stores. As this is the first version of the tool, still in the process of formal validation, we would appreciate your feedback.

An app with increased functionality is available for research purposes and requires a license for use (also free of charge for investigator initiated studies). For more information please email me at elena.pope(at)sickkids.ca or iscoreb.mobileapp(at)sickkids.ca.
