Executive committee

Terms of office

Every year an election is held at the General Assembly to fill the vacancies of members of the Executive Committee who are required to resign after their 3-year rotation. Retiring members of the Committee are eligible to offer themselves for election, alongside new candidates. All candidates must be nominated by their national member group and no country can have more than one member of the Executive Committee at any one time.

Role of the Executive Committee

The role of Executive Committee members of DEBRA International is to share responsibility for the governance of the organisation; to share accountability for its work; and to help resolve competing demands which may be placed on the organisation.

The Executive Committee seeks to ensure that its membership has direct personal experience of EB and that, as a group, the Executive Committee has a sufficient range of skills in order for it to be able to properly discharge all of its duties.


Responsibilities

  • To ensure that DEBRA International complies with its statutes, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations; pursues its charitable objectives and applies its resource exclusively in pursuance of its objectives
  • To contribute actively to the Executive Committee in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the charity
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity
  • To ensure the financial stability of the charity
  • To ensure the proper investment of the charity’s funds and the proper management of its property
  • To approve the system of appointment of senior staff and of monitoring their performance
  • To use any specific knowledge or experience they have to help the Executive Committee reach sound decisions
