Lesley Haynes (Former Principal Dietitian, Great Ormond Street Hospital) gives an overview of gastrostomy feeding in people with EB. She then presents key outcomes in 64 children who had gastrostomy tubes placed at GOS hospital between 1989 - 2009 including growth and patient and parent satisfaction.
Lynne Hubbard (Specialist Dietitian, St ThomasÂ’ Hospital, London) carries on the theme reviewing outcomes in 12 adult patients, who have had a gastrostomy in situ for a mean of 14.5 years. Their growth is compared with a comparable group of patients who opted not to have a gastrostomy placed.
Melissa Smith, a young adult with EB describes her life with a gastrostomy tube in situ for 16 years. The invaluable personnel insights she shares illustrate the positive and negative aspects of life with a gastrostomy.
