Burden of Treatment

The objective of a new study at Paris Descartes University (France) is to better understand the so-called "burden of treatment" - the "work of being a patient" - in order to develop an assessment tool that is hoped to influence future healthcare.

The burden of treatment takes all into account that patients have to do to take care of themselves: visits to doctors, medical tests, treatment management. Especially patients with chronic conditions often find it difficult to integrate everything asked of them into their everyday life.

What doctors' recommendations do patients find difficult to follow and why? How do they adjust everyday life to their treatments? Knowing what patients will be able to do and where compliance is limited may help shape treatment strategies that are efficient, effective and acceptable for patients.

People with at least one chronic condition (a condition requiring healthcare for at least 6 months) are invited to complete a short online questionnaire to contribute to the Burden of Treatment study.
