DEBRA International Research Funding Calls 2012
The 2012 call for applications for new research funding from DEBRA International, in any of DEBRA's priority research areas, is now open. The deadline for application submission is 30 June 2012. Decisions on funding applications from this call will be made in November 2012.
NB It is anticipated that there will NOT be a second call for applications in 2012.
DEBRA's Research Priorities:
- Biology and genetics of all forms of EB, as better understanding can lead to new approaches to treat EB
- Development of therapies, including possible gene-therapies, cell-therapies, drug therapies or protein therapies
- Wound healing and skin cancer in EB
- Clinical research to improve management of EB through symptom relief
DEBRA is delighted that there are now multiple clinical trials happening around the world, focusing on the five or so key EB therapy types in development. To reflect this situation, and after consultation with the MSAP, we have decided to place equal priority on translational-research grant applications that support therapy refinement, or help potential emerging treatments develop, and on continued fundamental research needed to further our understanding of EB, or discovery of novel therapeutic approaches.
Subject to funding availability, allocation of funds will recognize this equal prioritization while adhering to the core principle of funding the best research, identified by DEBRA's Medical & Scientific Advisory Panel (MSAP) as meeting the criteria of scientific quality, feasibility and patient benefit.
DEBRA welcomes proposals for co-funding with other organizations, including government, academia, industry or other charities. DEBRA will not, however, fund generic technology development costs not closely related to a specific EB therapeutic approach. If in doubt about whether your application would be eligible, please contact clare.robinson@debra.org.uk before submitting a full application.
Please note: Applications should be submitted by e-mail to clare.robinson@debra.org.uk (attachments should be <6Mb), and two hard copies of the application posted to Dr C Robinson, DEBRA International Research Manager, DEBRA House, 13 Wellington Business Park, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, Berkshire, RG45 6LS, UK. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged by e-mail.
