DEBRA Egypt celebrates EB Awareness Week 2022 on the Nile with EB patients and their families

200 EB families celebrate the festivities on board the Sea Gull on the Nile

On Saturday, 29th October 2022 Mrs Nora Fayek, Chairwoman of District 95 Egypt and Jordan of the International Inner Wheel (IIW) and Mrs Ashnadelle Hilmy, past board member of the IIW attended a charitable and entertaining party for more than 200 EB patients and their families from Egypt and other Arab countries, including Sudan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Mrs Hanaa Elsadat an Inner Wheel member who was honoured with the Margaret Golding Award in 2022, is the founder of the Yasmin El-Samra Charitable Foundation (DEBRA Egypt) after her late daughter Yasmin who passed away in 2012. The foundation, which was established in 2014, started with 20 EB patients and has now reached 400. It supports these patients with all medical supplies and all surgeries they needed.

The event’s objective was to celebrate the children undergoing treatment for this ferocious disease that attacks their fragile skin since birth and to create an opportunity for families to bond together and for children to socialise with others with the same ailment. The ceremony lasted for four hours, and included a number of various artistic performances from clowns, magicians, and singers.

Numerous friends, officials, and celebrities from all fields as well as entertainers joined the EB families in a great show of solidarity and support. A major TV channel relayed the event and interviewed supporters of the Foundation. The children sang special songs and presented flowers as a thank you to Mama Hanaa El-Sadat. Hanaa is also a member of the Executive Committee of DEBRA International.

The day was full of love and positive energy. Let us all unite together to help, comfort, and relieve the pain of these EB patients. Here is a video clip of the event.
