DEBRA International attends the 2025 EWMA Conference in Barcelona

DEBRA International was delighted to return to the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) conference in March 2025, hosted at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB). Sharing the stage with SEHER and GNEAUPP, EWMA 2025 drew together clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates for the theme: “Moving towards excellence in wound management by breaking frontiers and silos.” The three-day event featured more than 250 scientific sessions, 150 industry exhibitors, and attendees from 90+ countries.

Represented by DEBRA Spain (Piel de Mariposa), DEBRA International contributed a powerful guest session and took part in important meetings with international wound-care organisations to advocate for better care for people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

Guest session: “What’s New in EB? Different Perspectives”

The DEBRA-led session brought together experts from DEBRA Spain to share clinical and lived experiences of EB. Chaired by Evanina Morcillo Makow, Director of DEBRA Spain and Executive Committee board member of DEBRA International, the session offered a comprehensive look at care, innovation, and family perspectives.

Speakers and topics included:

  • Núria Tarrats (Research, DEBRA Spain) – New Therapies in EB

  • Álvaro Villar (Nurse, DEBRA Spain) – Importance of Home Nursing

  • Natividad Romero (Nurse, DEBRA Spain) – Approach to Newborns with EB

  • Elena Perona (Nurse, DEBRA Spain) – Approach to Carcinoma in EB

  • Alex Pérez (Parent) – Living with EB: A Family Perspective

The session was well-attended, with around 55 participants, primarily healthcare professionals. Attendees were engaged and many already familiar with EB, highlighting growing awareness within the wound-care field.

In addition to the session, DEBRA International took part in the International Partner Organisations board meeting, which gathered representatives from around the globe. These meetings offered a valuable opportunity to build connections for future collaborations, particularly around the development and international accreditation of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) for EB-related wound care.

Thank you to DEBRA Spain, the EWMA organisers, and our global partners for a productive and inspiring event. The conversations and collaborations sparked in Barcelona have laid strong foundations for continuing to improve care and raise awareness for people living with EB around the world.
