From April 5 to April 12, a photo exhibition focusing on epidermolysis bullosa (EB) was held at the Abashiri City Museum of Art in Hokkaido, Japan.
The exhibition was created through a collaboration between Marina Umetsu, who lives with epidermolysis bullosa and was the focus of the exhibition, and Serika, a photographer and close friend of Umetsu. The two first met during school years and later developed the project with the aim of increasing understanding of EB to the general public.
The exhibition was held in the museum’s First Exhibition Room and showed daily life living with epidermolysis bullosa, offering visitors an opportunity to learn about the condition through visual storytelling.
With extensive media coverage by regional newspapers and television outlets in Hokkaido, the exhibition succeeded in bringing greater public attention to epidermolysis bullosa and the experiences of those living with the condition.
This event was reported and shared by DEBRA Japan, as part of ongoing efforts to highlight awareness activities related to EB in Japan.
