It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that a great legend in dermatology, Dr Jouni Uitto, passed away recently.
Dr Uitto was a well-respected, international dermatologist and researcher. With his tremendous expertise he did pioneering work in the field of epidermolysis bullosa and other genodermatoses, especially with the application of new genetic techniques for skin disorders.
In his incomparable career, he published more than 600 original articles in peer reviewed journals, almost 1,000 book contributions, and numerous abstracts in national and international congresses. Dr Uitto was also President of SID, Section Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and on the editorial board of numerous other journals.
Beyond his expertise, the community of dermatology loses a mentor, supporter, leader, pioneer, teacher, colleague, and dear friend with an engaging personality and memorable laughter.
All who had been fortunate enough to get to know him will miss him dearly.
